This jazz zine is inspired by Gregory Porter’s Liquid Spirit, an album shaped by emotion, rhythm, and poetic lyricism. It explores jazz as a form of storytelling, where different tempos and shifts in pacing are used to express feeling and mood. This zine translates sound into visual rhythm, showing how music can carry narrative and emotion through its structure and flow.
Tools Used
Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator
The idea is to use the lyrics from all five tracks to create overlapping patterns, with each song having its own distinct pattern. When layered together, they form a unique and dynamic book cover. For the zine title, I chose a bold, full-weight font to make it stand out against the busy background. This layout works because it avoids being overly chaotic. The clean, classic sans serif font balances the complexity of the patterns.
